PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stainless steel in which Ag and Cu are compositely added to an austenitic stainless steel and having excellent antibacterial property. ;SOLUTION: This austenitic stainless steel has a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.001 to 0.070% C, ≤2.0% Si, 0.05 to 2.5% Mn, 15 to 32% Cr, 7.0 to 26% Ni, 0.001 to 0.020% B, 0.5 to 4.0% Cu, 0.05 to 1.0% Ag, ≤0.045% P and ≤0.01% S. The yield of Ag is good, aging treatment for a long time after hot rolling is not necessary, and Ag-Cu eutectic crystals effective in antibacterial property are precipitated even if the content of Cu is under the solid solution limit.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
