The method involves illuminating or exposing a strip of film in frames as an image carrier in an exposing step. The frames then undergo a developing process and are then wound into a reel. Several similarly formed reels are stacked in a storage container. The container is sealed after a climatising step in which the reels and the storage container are climatised in an environment which is conditioned with respect to temperature and humidity. The film reels are climatised in a climate chamber in a position outside the storage chamber by forcefully circulating air which is conditioned with respect to temperature and humidity. The conditioned reels are then brought in the chamber into the corresponding, climatised storage container. The container is then sealed inside the climatising chamber.
