FIELD: radiation safety. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to sorption treatment of water and may be used for treating high- and medium-active liquid wastes, in particular, water from exhausted fuel holding basins of nuclear power stations. Limitation of known sorption methods for deactivation of radioactive solutions using organic ionites resides in their low radiation stability leading to destruction of basis, reduction of ion-exchange capacity, and deterioration of exchange kinetics. Invention simplifies radionuclide-sorption treatment of cooling water from holding basins or exhausted fuel repositories by way of maintaining constant neutral pH value on column outlet. To that end, cooling water is filtered through inorganic cation-exchange sorbent in hydrogen and salt forms, which sorbent is selected from the group containing zirconium and titanium phosphates and mixture thereof. EFFECT: increased radiation stability of sorbent.
