Chimeric genes and methods for increasing lysine content in seeds of corn, soybean and flora plants (Chimeric Genes and Methods for Increasing the Lysine Content of Seeds of Corn, Soybean and Rapeseed Plants)
The present invention relates to a method for screening for a chimeric gene, a first gene encoding a dihydrodipicolinic acid synthase (DHDPS) that is insensitive to lysine suppression and operably linked to a plant chloroplast transfer sequence, encoding a lysine-And a third gene encoding a plant lysine ketoglutarate reductase, all of which are operably linked to a plant seed specific control sequence. Methods of using the same to produce increased levels of lysine in seeds of transgenic plants are also provided. Also provided are corn, rapeseed and soybean plants that accumulate lysine at a higher level than seed untransformed plants.
