The invention relates to the production of an off-shore foundation on vertical piles. An inherently stable caisson (1) which can be filled with ballast is prefabricated and surmounted by the beginnings (2) of foundations, and equipped with vertical tubular sleeves (3) along which the caisson can slide. This assembly is moved to its permanent location off-shore and the caisson is made to slide in an appropriate manner, firstly upwards above the level of the sea and then downwards to below the zone which is exposed to impact. The invention applies particularly to the production of a bridge pier. IMAGE
