PURPOSE:To obtain an asymmetric separation membrane made of aromatic polyimide consisting of an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component composed of biphenyl tetracarboxylic acids as a main component and an aromatic diamine component containing di(aminophenoxy)-biphenyls. CONSTITUTION:In an asymmetric separation membrane for the pervaporization of an org. compound mixed liquid, soluble aromatic polyimide is prepared from an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component containing 70mol.% or more of biphenyl tetracarboxylic acids and an aromatic diamine component consisting of 15mol.% or more of di(aminophenoxy)-biphenyls and the remainder of an aromatic diamine compound having 2-3 benzene rings and the asymmetric separation membrane is obtained from said aromatic polyimide. When the pervaporization of an org. compound mixed liquid is performed using said separation membrane, a part of an org. compound can efficiently and selectively permeate.
