PURPOSE:To provide the method and device capable of measuring the accurate incised depth in receipt of sound waves not affected by transpirations generated on beam irradiation traces. CONSTITUTION:When an operator moves a hand piece 21 in the optional direction along the surface of material to be incised, frictional force proceeding toward a locus described by the central axis of the hand piece 21 is acted on a caster 26. As a result, the tip 21b rotates so that a transducer 22 is always located ahead in the moving direction of a laser beam 3. Accordingly, the sound waves A transmitted toward the transducer 22 from a beam irradiation part 7 are not affected by transpirations collected in an incised groove 6.
