PURPOSE:To perform the remote loopback test of an echo canceller from an opposite station by applying attenuation of prescribed level when a test signal is loopbacked. CONSTITUTION:When a remote loopback control signal is received from the opposite station via a transmission line 10, it is detected by a detection circuit 8, and a received audio signal on which band compression is applied is decoded at a decoder circuit 6, and is outputted to a conversion circuit 4 and the echo canceller 5. A signal 12 inputted to the circuit 4 is converted to an analog audio signal, and is outputted to a looping back circuit 3, and the circuit 3 is operated by a signal 11 detected by the circuit 8, and the signal is switched to a transmission audio signal from a 2/4-wire conversion circuit 2 via a prescribed audio signal attenuation circuit 15, and is looped back to the circuit 4. A signal 14 looped back to a transmission path is inputted to the canceller 5, and a normal echo cancellation operation is performed by the signal and a signal looped back via the circuit 15. The audio signal from which an echo is eliminated is band-compressed, and is transmitted to the opposite station via a transmission line 9. In such a way, the global remote loopback test of a system can be performed.
