PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reinforcing effect and mechanical characteristics of a formed body by specifying the adhesion strength between the filament of a carbon fiber with deposition of a sizing agent and a cement-based inorg. material. ;SOLUTION: A sizing agent containing an epoxy resin, a condensate between an unsatd. bibasic acid and a bisphenol with addition of an alkylene oxide, and a resin essentially comprising a phenol selected from single-ring phenols and polyring phenols with addition of alkylene oxide is deposited by 0.1-10wt.% on the surface of a carbon fiber having ≤1.05 ratio of the peripheral length to the reference length of the cross section. Thus, the obtd. carbon fiber to reinforce a cement-based inorg. material has ≥5MPa adhesion strength between the filament and the cementbased inorg. material, 0.05-0.5wt.% pyrolytic org. material, 0.1-0.4 surface oxygen density (OIS/CIS) measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of a carbon fiber bundle, and ≥4GPa average filament strength.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
