PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably sense occurrence of a pyroclastic flow by determining whether or not a frequency component larger than a predetermined threshold level among spectrum patterns exceeds a predetermined frequency range. ;SOLUTION: A received signal from a target is via a transmitter/receiver 2 to obtain a Doppler video signal Vd. MTI3 sweep-correlates the signal Vd for filtering fixed target components in the signal Vd and taking out only moving signal components Vd' such as a pyroclastic flow for outputting. A Doppler spectrum detector 4 performs FFT processing on the signal Vd' of the MTI3 and outputs a spectrum pattern for Doppler frequency. A target determiner 5 sets a threshold level in a level direction for the pattern and detects a frequency range of components larger than the level. Then the target determiner 5 uses a specific equation as determination reference to analyze the spectrum pattern, thereby reliably determining whether or not the pyroclastic flow occurs.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
