PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a soil covering material for a planting land with excellent executability capable of controlling weeds, suppressing the transpiration of soil moisture, preventing flying sand and stabilizing a soil temperature over the long period of time composed by containing a synthetic resin for binding a specified water holding material to tree pieces or mutually binding tree pieces or the like. ;SOLUTION: This material contains the tree pieces 2, the water holding material 3 composed of a vegetable fiber material such as coconut fibers and pulp, etc., and/or porous ceramics (an average grain size is preferably 1.0-1.5mm) such as the burned particles of pearlite or the like and the synthetic resin such as acrylic ester resin or the like for binding the tree pieces 2 with each other or the tree piece 2 and the water holding material 3. Also, it is preferable that the water holding property of the porous ceramics is 200-450ml/l (field water holding capacity) and it is preferable that the planting land is covered with the soil covering material 1 after sowing the seeds of beech family plants to the surface of the planting land.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
