The invention relates to a machine for detaching fruit from at least one bush comprising a plurality of flexible flails (5) in the form of beaters borne by a pair of supports with vertical axes which, situated on either side of a row of bushes to be shaken, are provided with driving means (8) with a view to making the flexible flails oscillate horizontally so that the free ends of these flails laterally strike the plant in order to make the fruits fall off it, characterised in that the plane P containing the vertical axes (6a) of a pair of supports (6) is inclined to the longitudinal axis (4) of the row of plants (1) to be treated or the axis of displacement of the device so that the supports are offset with respect to each other in the direction of forward travel of the machine as too are the points of impact of the flails.
