If a call connection exists for a second terminal (T2) (secretary station), which is associated with a first terminal (T1) (executive station) in a particular switching arrangement, a signalling information can be transferred from the secretary station to the controller (ZSt), which has the consequence that the line on which this call connection is effected is placed on hold and that, at the same time, a command for activating the direct-listening hands-free speaking facility (LFS1) belonging to the executive station is transmitted. Furthermore, a consultation connection is established between the secretary station and the executive station. When the secretary station (T2) goes on hook or when an action is taken, the effect of which corresponds to this going-on hook, the executive station (T1) is automatically connected to the line (L) which is on hold, maintaining the direct-listening hands-free speaking mode of operation. Thus, a call connection is switched to the executive station without the subscriber concerned having to undertake any action at his terminal. IMAGE
