Multilayer road surface construction comprising a surface layer of asphalt directly under which is a high strength structural layer comprising a mix of bituminous material and stone chippings or gravel and having an open structure. The pores in this open structure are filled to a large extent with a cast or pourable hardening material, pref. concrete, to provide the strength required. The heated or otherwise fluid bituminous material is first mixed with the stone chippings to coat them with bituminous material. The concrete mix is then added and mixed in such that there is pref. 10% bituminous material and 10% concrete material in the mix. The mix is then laid and spread in the required area. After hardening, a layer of stone chippings or gravel coated with bituminous material is applied. The method can also be used for road repairs or renovation of a road (1) e.g. comprising a sand base (2), a support layer of bituminous material, e.g asphalt-concrete (3), and covered with a surface layer of bituminous material (4). The areas deformed by the wheels (5) of heavy goods vehicles are cut out over a width of 50-100 cm and pref. 75 cm, and a depth of 2-10 cm and pref. 6 cm, and filled with the mix (6) of gravel or chippings, initially coated with bituminous material, to which the pore-filling concrete slurry is added and mixed prior to laying. A top layer (7), e.g. 4 cm thick, of open structure asphalt-concrete is then applied too complete the repair.
