This invention describes new complementary peptides of tumour necrosis factors (TNFs) or receptor 2 (R55) of the tumour necrosis factor and substances related to these for the purpose of preparing substances which either mimic or inhibit certain biological actions of TNF. For this purpose complementary peptide methodology is used. The substances obtained may be used as guide compounds in the development of pharmaceutical substances for cases where modification of the action of TNF is required. Some such cases are inflammation, septic shock, cancer, treatment of viruses and cachexia.
