PURPOSE: To prepare a high-performance sliding coating film excellent in adhesion and tribological characteristic by mutually diffusing a specified plasma- sprayed oxide over an Al base material under reduced pressure of the element constituting the powder of a sliding face material and the base material element. ;CONSTITUTION: An oxide such as TiO2 contg. a metal element to be mutually diffused with a base material element or the powder of an Ni-or Fe-base sliding face material is plasma-sprayed under reduced pressure over an Al or Al-contg. base material. As a result, the oxidation, etc., caused during spraying in the conventional atmospheric plasma spraying are prevented, and further, the Al in the base material and an element such as Ti in the coating film constituting material (TiO2, etc.) are mutually diffused positively to form a diffused layer.
