PURPOSE: To efficiently reduce data of a B splined curve without changing the global shape. ;CONSTITUTION: A wavelet component calculation means 101 calculates the wavelet component of a B-splined curve. A hierarchical component calculation means 102 calculates the value of the hierarchical component minimizing the wavelet component and defines the value which is α(0α≤1) times as many as the value as the hierarchical component. A wavelet component update mean 103 calculates the changed amount of the wavelet component by the hierarchical component determined by a hierarchical component calculation means 102 and updates the wavelet component. A control means 105 evaluates the size of the wavelet component, starts again the hierarchical component calculation means 102 when the size is larger than a normal value and starts a curve data output means 104 when the size is the normal value or less. The curve data output means 104 outputs the only hierarchical component whose size is the normal value or more of the hierarchical components of the B-splined curve as curve data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
