PURPOSE:To enable massproduction of fiber from phosphate laser glass, and to produce long phosphate glass fiber having high optical quality in large amt. by adopting phosphate glass having thermal properties approximately equal to core glass as clad glass to be used for the fiber. CONSTITUTION:Simple mode fiber for laser glass is constituted of core glass 1 and clad glass 2, and the fiber is used for 1.054mus laser oscillation wavelength by regulating the fiber diameter and the core diameter to specified dimensions. Phosphate laser glass contg. 45-70mol.% P2O5; 4-20mol.% Al2O3; 0-35mol.% R''O (at least one kind among MgO, CaO, BaO, PbO, SrO, and ZnO); 0-30mol.% R'2O (at least one kind among Li2O, Na2O, and K2O); 4-45mol.% R''O+R'2O; and 0.1-6mol.% Nd2O3, is used as the core glass 1. Further, phosphate glass contg. 45-70mol.% P2O5, 4-20mol.% Al2O3, 0-35mol.% R''O, 0-30mol.% R'2O, and 4-45mol.% R''O+R'2O is used for the clad glass 2.
