PURPOSE: To measure Paul-Bunnell antibody with high sensitivity by employing a Paul-Bunnell antibody produced by treating an erythrocyte membrane of mammal with a nonionic surfactant. ;CONSTITUTION: A Paul-Bunnell antibody being employed in the measuring reagent is obtained by treating an erythrocyte membrane of mammal with a nonionic surfactant. The material erythrocyte membrane is obtained by treating and refining the erythrocyte of mammal, e.g. horse, sheep or goat. More specifically, the erythrocyte of mammal is dispersed into a physiological saline buffered with phosphoric acid, and the operation for collecting the precipitate centrifugally is repeated. Subsequently, it is added with a Tris buffer solution containing ethylene diamine tetraacetate, phosphoric acid buffer solution, etc., in order to hemolyze the erythrocyte and then an erythrocyte membrane is obtained centrifugally. Since the erythrocyte membrane contains hemoglobin and the like, dispersion into the buffer solution and centrifugal operation are repeated to obtain a refined milky white erythrocyte membrane which is finally treated with nonionic surfactant thus obtaining a Paul-Bunnel antibody.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
