PURPOSE: To make it possible to remove chromaticity, org. materials, suspended solids, phosphorus compd., sulfur and nitrogen compd. by injecting the bittern generated in a salt making stage into alkali-treated basic industrial waste water and stirring the waste water, then flocculating and settling the waste water. ;CONSTITUTION: The bittern produced in respective stages of mechanical salt manufacture, slat manufacture by solar evaporation or rock salt refining or the like or during storage of these salt is injected as it is, or after treatment by debrominating, evaporation thickening, powdering, filtering or the like, into the industrial waste water, such as dyeing waste water, dye waste water, leather waste water, printing waste water, paper making waste water, food waste water, pulp waste water or chemical waste water, maintained at a pH 8 by using alkali agents, such as quicklime, slaked lime and caustic soda, alone or in combination. A proper amt. of a calcium compd., such as calcium chloride, gypsum or calcium carbonate, is put into this soln. and after the soln. is stirred for several minutes, the soln. is flocculated and settled. Further, the settled soln. is filtered, by which the chromaticity, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, turbidity, suspended solids, sulfur, org. matter or the like are decreased.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
