PURPOSE: To suppress thickness variation on the outlet side of the final stand corresponding to speed change by providing a speed controlling for a (n-2)th stand for correcting the speed reference of the (n-2)th stand by a speed correcting amount determined by a 3rd thickness control means. ;CONSTITUTION: The thickness correcting amount on the outlet side of a (n-1)th stand is calculated with a (n-1)th stand feed-forward thickness controlling means 14 and added to a (n-1)th stand feedback thickness controlling means 12. The speed correcting amount at a (n-2)th stand is calculated from thickness detected with an outlet thickness gage, thickness correcting amount on the outlet side of the (n-1)th stand determined by an n-th stand feedback thickness controlling means 9 or the like. This speed correcting amount is added to a (n-2)th stand speed control means 13, the speed reference of the (n-2)th stand is corrected by the speed correcting amount and the (n-2)th stand is controlled.
