An arena simulator for generating real-time image information for testing image-resolution detectors, in particular for examining infrared detectors in target finder heads, includes a series of micromechanical mirrors (20) consisting of a two-dimensional arrangement of mirror elements movable by control between a first and a second control position. An illumination device (10) is capable of illuminating the series of mirrors (20) regularly. The light of the illumination device (10) is guided, in a first switching position of a mirror element, next to a detector to be examined (32), and is reflected, in the second switching position of the mirror element in the ray path (26) of the detector (32). Control means (34, 36) are provided to control the mirror elements from the first or second switching position so that the detector to be examined observes a simulated object scene.
