The heating installation has radiators (1) which are arranged below the seat of benches of the church and the thermal radiation of which is essentially directed towards the ground. To avoid the risk of fire and also to lower the running costs, each radiator (1) is formed by a radiant surface (3.1, 3.2) made of a highly thermally conductive material, preferably of metal, which extends according to the longitudinal direction of the seat, is pre-curved in the direction of the ground (8), is essentially closed and the inner surface of which is exposed to the heat originating from a heating element, the space enclosed by the radiant surface (3.1, 3.2) is sealed, in the direction of the underside of the bench, by a thermally insulating layer, and the power of the heating element is calculated so that the surface temperature of the radiant surface (3.1, 3.2) does not exceed 60 DEG C.
