Driveline for motor vehicles in which an engine arranged at the front of the vehicle is connected to the axle transmission of the rear axle by way of a shaft train provided with at least one joint and where necessary supported by intermediate bearings, and is axially braced against the said transmission by way of the shaft train, with crumple zones absorbing impact energy in the event of a head-on collision of the vehicle is to be designed to prevent buckling in the joint area. For this purpose the minimum one joint engages axially with at least one of its adjacent shafts in a ring casing, which is fixed solely on one of the two shafts connected by the joint and which, at least in the case of a shaft train shortened by impact energy, also surrounds the other shaft acting on the joint and not fixed to the said shaft train.
