The present invention relates to a process and an apparatus by which the process waste waters (effluents) of an ultrafiltration unit can be treated and purified. In order to decrease the special waste disposal of the known ultrafiltration units to a considerably lower proportion, the process waste waters arising at an ultrafiltration plant are fed via a collection line to a waste water purification plant. Precipitation of suspended matter initially takes place there in a storage vessel, before the suspended matter passes into one or more reaction vessels arranged at the outlet of the storage vessel, in which reaction vessel they are charged with a flocculant which chemically separates, breaks and binds the emulsions. The pollutants flocculated out of the process waste waters are then filtered out in dewatering containers (38) and disposed of and the pure water is returned back to the ultrafiltration unit. IMAGE
