This invention relates to an agent for obtaining a red brick fired colour in calcareous clay bricks which contains a mixture comprising from 0 - 70% by weight of colemanite and 0 - 70% by weight of phonolite, in which at least one of the components must be present in a quantity of at least 30% by weight, and 70 - 30% by weight of iron (III) oxide, iron (III) oxide/hydroxide and/or iron (III) hydroxide. The invention also relates to calcareous clay bricks and a process for their preparation.
