PURPOSE: To produce a cutting tool made of a TiCN cermet excellent in wear resistance. ;CONSTITUTION: This cutting tool is constituted of a TiCN cermet having a compsn. contg. 1 to 30wt.% bonding phase essentially consisting of Co or Co and Ni, and the balance dispersed phase essentially consisting of composite metal carbon nitride expressed by a compositional formula: (Ti, Mo) CN or (Ti, Mo, M) CN (where M denotes one or more kinds among Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr and W) with inevitable impurities, furthermore contg. Mo by 5 to 10wt.% expressed in terms of Mo2C and in which fine Mo2C precipitated from the bonding phase as the dispersed phase is dispersedly contained in a ratio in which, in the case the peak intensity of the (111) plane of the composite metal carbon nitride measured by an X-ray diffraction method is defined as Ib and the peak intensity of the (101) plane of the finely precipitated Mo2C is defined as Ia, and Ia/Ib=0.01 to 0.3 is satisfied.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
