PURPOSE: To prevent the elution of impurities from a membrane separation element by washing a reverse osmosis membrane and a separation element constituting member with org. solvent. ;CONSTITUTION: As a reverse osmosis membrane, a dual type reverse osmosis membrane obtained by forming a functional membrane layer taking charge of separation on a perforated support by interfacial polycondensation reaction, cross-linking reaction, polymer coating or a monomer polymerization is used. A membrane separation element to be used is constituted by incorporating the reverse osmosis membrane along with other member. An org. solvent such as lower alcohol, ethers or ketones or a mixture of two or more kinds of solvents is used to prepare an aq. soln. and a reverse osmosis membrane and a separation element are immersed in the aq. soln. for a predetermined time. Whereupon, the residual monomer component being the unreacted substance of interfacial polycondensation forming a functional membrane layer is eluted to rapidly desorb the org. meter bonded to or adsorbed on the permeation side of the membrane separation element. The washing due to the org. solvent is effective for removing an org. amine component and an org. chloride component and has effect for reducing the concns. of both of an ionic substance and a TOC component.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
