PURPOSE: To bring the sole of a head into contact at a point with the green to facilitate hitting through by setting curvature radius of the sole from the face to the back in large and small accompanied with long and short of a shaft. CONSTITUTION: The sole 15 of a head 13 of the third iron club 12 is set in such a way that the curvature radius A from the face 14 to the back 16 is approximately the same as the swing radius A', namely it is formed large in proportion to the length L of a shaft 11. In addition, in the head 13F of the ninth iron club 12F, the curvature radius G of the sole 15F is set so as to make it approximately the same as the swing radius G', namely it is formed small in proportion to the length of a shaft 11F. Therefore, when the third iron club 12 is swung, namely when the angle of incidence to the green is small, the sole can be brought into contact at a point with the green and on the other hand, when the ninth iron club 12F is swung, namely when the angle of incidence to the ground is large, the sole can be brought into contact at a point with the green.
