PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compounds, having physiological activities in remarkably elongating roots of plants and useful as a plant growth regulator. ;CONSTITUTION: These compounds are expressed by formula I [Y is OH, an alkoxy or an (alkyl)amino; R1 and R2 are each a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an aryl, nitro, an (alkyl)amino or H], e.g. 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(2-methylindol-3-)butyric acid. The compounds expressed by formula I in which Y is the OH are obtained by reacting compounds expressed by formula II with a previously prepared reational product of diethyl malonate with metallic Na, providing compounds expressed by formula III (Et is ethyl) and then thermally refluxing the resultant compound with K2CO3. The compounds expressed by formula I in which Y is the alkoxy are prepared by esterifying the resultant compounds and the compounds expressed by formula I in which Y is the (alkyl)amino are obtained by reacting the prepared compounds with an (alkyl)amine.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
