The system includes a support (12), on which is placed the fibre optic reel (14), and two pulleys (20,22) driven tangential to the direction of the reel (14) axis. One of the pulleys (20) is driven directly by a motor (24). Couplers (38,40) mounted at the ends of the fibre (16) permit connection to a photonic network. The edge (28) of one of the pulleys (20) is formed from an elastomer material.
