The authentication involves sending an identity code (ID) from the terminal to the server, the server verifying the identification and, if it is accepted, sending a random number (ALEA-A) to the terminal. The terminal encodes the random number using a signature algorithm (B) defined by a secret key (SID) and sends the resulting signature (ALEA-S) to the server. The server applies a verification algorithm to the signature. The identity code and an encrypted secret key (KID) are written in the terminal memory. The secret key (SID) used for the signature is determined with the aid of an decryption algorithm (INVA), using the secret key and a password provided by the user of the terminal.
