Automatic evaluation of disease type comprises deriving many characteristic parameters (CP) from analytical data on protein fractions obtd. by electrophoretic analysis of blood samples. At least one intelligent table is constructed to represent the relationship between combinations of CP and each disease type. A characteristic parameter pattern of a sample is generated by arranging CP according to a predetermined format and the pattern compared with the tables to indicate disease type.
