Computer-supported measurement of acoustic frequency-dependent reflection characteristics of walls - subtracting quasi-free-field measurement from measurement performed by positioning speaker-microphone assembly in front of wall and sensing sound directly and indirectly from wall and correcting for energy and phase.
Computer-supported measurement of acoustic frequency-dependent reflection characteristics of walls - subtracting quasi-free-field measurement from measurement performed by positioning speaker-microphone assembly in front of wall and sensing sound directly and indirectly from wall and correcting for energy and phase.
The method involves positioning a rigidly connected loudspeaker-microphone combination in front of the measurement wall. Pulsed measurement signals are used. The incident sound signals are detected using a quasi free field reference measurement. The measurement arrangement is placed in position and the sound is detected. This sound signal contains the incident and reflected sound from the measurement surface. The reflected sound signal is derived by subtracting the digitised signal determined by the quasi free field measurement from the digitised second measurement signal. The power and phase of the resulting signal is corrected wrt. the first measured signal. USE/ADVANTAGE - For measuring absorption characteristics of wall materials and determining acoustics of rooms or pipes. Achieves very favourable signal-to-noise ratio.
