The vacuum system for reusable containers, bags and films of plastic etc. is excellently suited to the preserving storage of any type of food and luxury food for daily domestic needs. Particularly in conjunction with refrigerating appliances, the consumability and shelf life of food and the like which normally perishes rapidly is considerably lengthened by the exclusion of air. The containers are of simple design and, especially in conjunction with container magazines, are extremely user-friendly since the generation of the preserving vacuum is triggered fully automatically upon insertion of the system container into the container magazine. All container lids belonging to the system can be easily put on and taken off as they form a firm connection with the system container only upon generation of negative pressure. The highly preserving action is achieved by utilising atmospheric pressure, whereby the substances to be preserved are closely encased by highly elastic material with the complete exclusion of harmful air or in the case of vessels made of solid materials by adaptation of the vessel to the contents, which is achieved by continuous adjustability of the vessel lid or vessel bottom.
