Digital sensor e.g. for distance, acceleration, rotation direction and 360 degree angle measurement - has laser head for scanning optical or magneto=optical code pattern on data carrier to provide binary number output
The digital sensor (10) in the form of a laser head samples markings (12) on the surface of a data carrier (11). The laser head output is connected to processing unit (13) that operates on the obtained bit pattern. An output is provided to a computer (14). The data carrier can be optical or magneto-optical and signals generated can be in the form of varying line markings. Start and stop patterns can be provided at the beginning and end of the data pattern. A control code pattern can also be provided and can be read by rotating the head about a centre. USE/ADVANTAGE - Eg for mounting, as code-carrying disc with magnetisable surface, on shaft, or measurement of acceleration of spring-mass system. Provides directly usable output with reference markings.
