The parallel light (1) falling on the collecting main mirror (2) is firstly reflected back to a diffusing mirror (3), which in turn reflects the light on to a collecting mirror (4). From this collector mirror the light passes to a detector (5), and all three mirror optical axes coincide. The main mirror is hyperbolic, the diffusing mirror is parabolic and the collecting mirror is spherical. The distance between the diffusing mirror and the main mirror is given by the difference of the sizes of the focuses of the two mirrors. The dia. ratio of the light bunch falling onto the main mirror to that reflected from the diffusing mirror is equal to the ratio of the sizes of the focuses of the two mirrors. USE/ADVANTAGE - A mirror system for an astronomical telescope in which there is an improvement in the symmetry of the system in order to reduce outer-axial errors of a high order.
