Ceiling boards etc. for lining rooms are claimed (I), with density 120-500 kg/cm3 and consisting of 2-15 wt.% cellulose material (II), 30-70 wt.% vermiculite (expanded mica), 4-10 wt.% binder, i.e. starch, waterglass and/or acrylate dispersion, 10-40 wt.% clay mineral, 0-20 wt.% filler in the form of perlite, and flocculating agent. (I) is made from a suspension of minerals, additives, binders and water (see above), by a wet process in which the suspension is passed along a dehydrating section on a continuous screen belt to form a layer of preset thickness and then through a drying zone to give a sheet (I) which is at least fire-resistant, sound-insulating and heat-insulating. Pref. (II) is waste paper and/or a biological raw material such as straw, flax etc.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention provides fire-resistant insulating board or sheet for lining walls and ceilings etc.. This board has properties (mechanical strength, including long-term strength, resistance to variations in temp., atmos. moisture, sunlight, etc.) which are identical to those of prior-art mineral fibre board, but contains no potentially harmful mineral fibre or wool. In addn., the process uses a recycled or renewable raw material (see below), and the water filtered off through the screen is recycled to stage (b).
