Shock testing machine accelerator e.g. for testing sensor used for vehicle airbag passenger safety system - has acceleration generating device connected to toothed belt and imparting pulse to test object carriage via adjustable flexural rod.
The machine contains an acceleration generating device (5) which imparts a semi-sinusoidal acceleration pulse via a flexural rod (11) to a horizontally guided carriage (14) on which the test object (16) is mounted. The effective length (18) of the flexural rod can be varied. Alternatively, the test object is attached to the acceleration generating device and is braked by a flexural rod. The acceleration mass is brought to the required speed by a motorised drive (6-10). The acceleration generating device has a carriage connected to the upper section (6) of a toothed belt (7). ADVANTAGE - Testing time and cost of and space required by shock testing machine are reduced .
