For the initial treatment and/or drying of yarn material, a continuous yarn bundle and/or material is formed from a number of yarns, to be piled in layers in a vessel. The treatment fluid and/or dye flows at and/or through the piled material. Also claimed is a vessel to take the piled yarn material, and a feed for the fluid. The vessel also has a system to form the yarn material into bundles and/or a material as part of the whole assembly. Pref. the yarn bundles are laid in a spiral within the vessel to give layers of concentric laid circles. The yarn bundles are formed by twisting a number of separate yarns together, where the separate yarns have a twist of 2-400 twists/m and pref. 10-200 twists/m. The twisted yarn bundles are held together by at least one yarn coiled round them, formed by twisting several yarns together. Each bundle has 2-200 yarns and pref. 10-100 yarns. The yarns are formed into a material as a strip to be laid in layers in the vessel. The piled yarn material is compressed in the vessel before the fluid is introduced so that its vol. is reduced by 20-90%. The fluid flow axially through the piled material with a flow direction change during initial treatment and/or dyeing, after 2-20 mins.. After processing and/or drying the material is opened out into the separate yarns. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique for initial treatment and/or dyeing of yarn materials uses significantly less treatment fluid, with an effective action.
