The voltage limiting circuit uses a silicon carbide varistor as a non-linear resistance (R10) in series with a gate-turn-off thyristor (VB10) and an ohmic resistor (R11) across the extension capacitor (C10). The GTO thyristor (VB10) acts as an limiting valve which is sintered in and out in dependence on the permissible capacitor voltage and a fixed, lower capacitor voltage. Pref. a parallel protection circuit (3) is used to protect the GTO thyristor. USE - For emergency cut-out of current regulator upon loss of mains voltage with limiting of extinction device capacitor voltage.
