These new oligoethyleneoxy polyphosphazenes contain alkyl gps. and have a structure in which segments represented by formulae (I), (II), and (III) are arbitrarily arranged. (In the formulae R is a single methyl, ethyl or propyl gp. or a mixt. of these groups; h and k independently represent an average repeating number of ethyleneoxy units, were h = 0-15 k = 0-15; l, m and n independently represent 0 or a positive integer; l = at least 3 + m + n is up to 200,000; n does not equal o. The oligoethyleneoxypolyphosphazenes are produced by the reaction of chloric polyphosphonitrile with MO(CH2CH2O)kR and MO(CH2CH2O)hCH2CH=CH2, (where M is an alkali metal) (IV) An alkaline sec battery can be made having V2O5 layers as the positive electrode, an alkali metal emitting substance as the negative electrode and the polyphosphazenes as the electrolyte.
