The invention relates to a process for the economical production of wire and rod steel on a continuous train, in which the input stock is prerolled in a high-reduction rolling mill with high reduction per pass and then continuously further- and finish-rolled as a single wire. The object of the invention is to design this process such that it is possible to employ large starting weights which still lead to respectable coil weights after the longitudinal division. This process is solved, according to the invention, in that the rolling stock is longitudinal divided - in a manner known per se - before the finish-rolling. Furthermore, the invention relates to the installation for carrying out the process. IMAGE
