According to the invention, there is provided a first memory (4) containing the general characteristics of different types of discrete landmarks and a second memory (6) containing the geographical position of such landmarks on the territory to be overflown, a device (3) for extracting signals delivered by sensitive means (1), the general characteristics of the said different types of discrete landmarks which are found on the territory being overflown and a device (2) for calculating, on the basis of the signals delivered by the said sensitive means (1), the relative positions of the said vehicle with respect to the said recognised landmarks, which it addresses to means (8) of KALMAN filtering.
