The rubbish is collected in dust bins (1), which are then emptied into a transportable collection unit (2) such as a compressor unit, incorporating a container which on its top side has an opening to which is connected a lift and tipping device (4). This lifts the dust bin and empties it into the collection unit. The collection is provided with an inner mechanism for rubbish compression and at least one of its sides (6) and/or its bottom is openable for emptying the collected rubbish. The collection unit can be transported with the aid of an external lifting and/or transport vehicle (11) whilst the dust bins can be set at work places or at special collection points.
