PURPOSE: To decrease erroneous diagnostic detection numbers of normal examples in small knot candidatures when abnormality is detected by a digital breast X-ray photograph. CONSTITUTION: In order to avoid an oversight of small knots which would not be detected generally, image differential technique with improved detection sensitivity is applied to an image. In order to decrease erroneous diagnostic numbers of normal examples, characteristic extraction technique is applied on a producing area surrounding small knots candidatures, to obtain information for computer treatment as to the candidatures. Database of parameters in common with erroneous diagnoses of normal examples is compared with the calculated parameter value in common with erroneous diagnoses of normal examples. Candidatures which have the parameters of the producing area within a range of the data base in common with erroneous diagnoses of normal examples are excluded as erroneous diagnostic detection of possible normal examples produced owing to the normal background anatomical structural characteristics.
