PURPOSE: To eliminate the degradation of sound image localization and sound quality by letting frequency-amplitude characteristics be amplitude characteristics geometrical means between both, letting frequency-phase characteristics be the phase components of vector mean between both and calculating intermediate transfer characteristics between reference transfer characteristics. ;CONSTITUTION: This is a calculating method of the transfer characteristics of sound image localization control for letting a listener feel that sound images are localized at an optional position (x) different from separately arranged plural transducers. That is, from the plural reference transfer characteristics X(i) and Y(i) measured or calculated beforehand, the frequency-amplitude characteristics R are defined as the geometrical mean of the amplitude characteristics between the reference transfer characteristics. Also, the frequency-phase characteristics (r) are defined as the phase components of the vector mean between the reference transfer characteristics and the intermediate transfer characteristics R(i) between the reference transfer characteristics are calculated. Based on the transfer characteristics, the intermediate transfer characteristics at an intermediate sound image localization position are calculated with high accuracy and the degradation of the sound image localization and the sound quality at the intermediate localization position can be eliminated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
