PURPOSE: To reduce a braking distance of a train stopping in an emergency without increase of the running resistance due to the air when the train is running at a usual speed in an underground tunnel. ;CONSTITUTION: The resistance of a running train owing to the air can be reduced by passing the compressed air in front of the train in the underground tunnel 1, which is brought about by the traveling freight train 6a, 6b, through a bypass way 8 to the backward way of the train, by the opened air cut-off valves 10a, 10b. When a preceding freight train 6a stops and the distance between the train 6a and the subsequent freight train 6b decreases shorter than the safe distance between trains, the air cut-off valves 10a, 10b attached at the front and rear sides of an air suction or exhaust opening 9a between both freight trains 6a, 6b are closed to cut off the air flow through the bypass way 8 by a controller 12.
