PURPOSE: To accurately set cells at a desired ink transfer number when the cells are manufactured by providing a means which changes the amount of a filler material arranged in the cells after the usage of a porous roller, and repairs the volume of the cells to a desired dimension, or the like. ;CONSTITUTION: On the surface 13 of a porous roller 12, a plurality of cells 14A to accept an ink through cell walls 16A or the like which determine a surface region 17A, are formed. Also, the porous roller 12 is brought into contact with a doctor blade which induces a surface wear or the like of the surface region 17A. In addition, the volume of the cell 14A is set at a depthwise dimension H1A required to hold a desired amount of an ink which is suitable for a transfer at the time of a printing. In the meantime, a filler material 20 is arranged in the cells 14A in order to reduce the volume to a required dimension in a manner to make a desired ink holding amount which is suitable for a printing. Then, by changing the amount of the filler material 20 after a usage of the porous roller 12, the volume of the cell 14A is repaired to the desired dimension.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
