PURPOSE:To improve the flow characteristics and cohesiveness of perylene or perinone pigment in a non-aqueous vehicle, by dispersing a perylene or perinone pigment in a non-aqueous vehicle by using a specified compd. CONSTITUTION:A perylene or perinone pigment is dispersed in a non-aqueous vehicle by using 0.5-10pts.wt. (per 100pts.wt. perylene or perinone pigment) compd. having the formula, wherein Q is a residue of a hydrocarbon having a condensed benzene ring adjacent to two or four carbonyl groups at the peri- positions; R1 and R2 are each H or a lower alkyl and R1 and R2 may form a heterocyclic ring when combined together with N and the heterocyclic ring may contain O; n is a number of 1 to 6; and p is a number of 1 to 2. This dispersing method has an excellent effect of imparting clarity, when used in metallic paints.
